Book Groups

Reading good books is often a great way to grow in our ability to walk alongside others well. Reading them together is a wonderful opportunity to encourage each other as we learn - and think about how to apply what we are learning to our local contexts. To that end, BCUK offers a range of online book groups across the year.

The books we choose to discuss are books that we think are worth reading but we do not necessarily endorse every aspect of the text. Part of learning together is learning to think wisely about what we read.

Who can join?

Our aim is to make these groups as accessible as possible. All our groups are open to everyone but some book groups will be particularly suitable for those with greater levels of ministry experience.

What’s the cost?

The groups are free but do require you to obtain a copy of the book under discussion and be willing to read the relevant chapters prior to each discussion.

How to join

To register, complete the form below, before the start of the group you are registering for.

Once you have signed up you will receive a Zoom link and schedule of reading. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Fear Is Not a Sin
by Ed Welch

Many of us struggle with fear – many of us wonder if doing so is suffering or sin. In this tiny yet thoroughly biblical book, Ed Welch helps us view our fear with compassion (whilst at the same time remaining alert to the snares that fear can bring).

The Country Parson
by George Herbert

Made up of 37 short chapters covering a range of topics such as pastoral visiting, apologetics, sermon illustrations, self-counselling and family life, The Country Parson – originally written in the 17th century to help clergy with their “form and character” – is surprisingly relevant to modern ministry. This group is for anyone serving in pastoral care ministries both formal and informal.
